Why Having an Attorney Helps in the Immigration Process

When you look at the immigration process, you may think, "Oh, it's just forms, how hard could it be?" The truth is, one small mistake can break a case, which can have severe immigration consequences.

Immigration attorneys are there to look out for red flags and errors which could derail your case. An recent example I have seen of this is a client who believed they needed to put the local USCIS office on their family petition instead of selecting a consulate abroad.

After seeing that the family case was approved, but the case didn't progress beyond the family petition step, the family came to me and wanted to know what to do. Unfortunately, we had to take the costly step of submitting an additional form so that the case would be transferred away from USCIS and towards consular processing, which cost the client an additional $465 in filing fees and months of additional waiting time that could have been avoided had they retained an attorney initially.

Situations like these are why having an attorney can benefit you. If you are considering submitting forms to immigration, look into an immigration attorney. The peace of mind that comes form knowing that your case is being handled by someone who knows what to look for is well worth it.
