When a temporary worker wants to come to the United States, the wait for a visa can be long. The pandemic has reduced staff and processing capacity, meaning additional delays in obtaining a visa. However, the Department of State issued a notice on December 23, 2021 that consular officers are authorized to waive the in-person interviews for H-1Bs, H-3s, H-4s, Ls, Os, Ps, and Qs. In addition, they extended the ability to waive the in-person interviews of H-2s, Fs, Ms, and Js. This authorization goes through the end of 2022. As can be seen by the limited letters of the alphabet from the entire alphabet soup that is immigration, this only applies to a small group that consists of temporary workers and students/exchange visitors.

There are specific requirements for interviews to be waived, and it depends on the type of visa being requested. For more information and to see if you qualify for the waiver of your visa interview, please click here.
