As a follow up to last week's blog, I am posting a link to the monthly immigrant visa issuance statistics: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-statistics/immigrant-visa-statistics/monthly-immigrant-visa-issuances.html. This data gives an idea of how many visas are being issued for each type of visa depending on either where a person is from (place of birth or foreign state of chargeability) or the consular post itself.
As an example, Mexico issued 3,171 visas for spouses of a U.S. citizen in December 2021. In December 2020, they only issued 344 visas for spouses of a U.S. citizen. In December 2019, prior to Covid, they issued 2,314 visas for spouses of a U.S. citizen. So it looks like Mexico is picking back up to pre-Covid, or better than pre-Covid levels.
This is not the case with countries, but it is interesting to see what happened during the pandemic and show which countries might have a larger backlog than others if the issuances slowed down during Covid.
